A Nose Job for the 7 (Part 1)
I’ve always liked the body shape of the 7Y. I find it quirky; I like the fact that it has no bodywork at the rear, exposing the suspension, driveshafts etc. The front of the car was a different matter though, the nose being too long and wedgey. I always thought that a nose more like the original would suit the car more. I found a company making replica S2 nose cones and ordered one.
Having spoken to Barry Flegg (the original builder of the car) he told me the nose was originally modified to fit the chassis which included changing the slant of the front air intake which was angled down more towards the road (a job that I am not looking forward to doing). A great deal of trimming and cutting has already started just to get the nose to fit the chassis but I already prefer the looks, and if all goes to plan the finished article should look good.
I’m hoping to get the nose finished for next season and hope to run the car trying both noses to see if it makes any difference – not just from an aesthetic point.
